FLU ALERT CONTINUES

HOSPITAL staff remain on amber alert this week as the flu outbreak continues to take its toll on Doncaster.

Around 38 patients are still being admitted to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary every day, said a spokesman for the hospital's Trust. But the figure is down from a peak of 58 over a 24-hour period earlier this month. All five beds in DRI's intensive care unit remain full."We are still on amber, but we are managing to keep all our extra beds open and have not had to cancel any elective work," continued the spokesman."Staff sickness is average. After working extra shifts for a number of weeks staff are now beginning to feel the strain," she added.
