Fleeing car thief leaves blazing inferno after being cornered by Doncaster police

Officers from the Doncaster East neighbourhood team followed the thieves at the end of a day which had seen them working with the force’s off road bikers team on Monday, checking sites at Armthorpe pit top, Edenthorpe Tesco field, Dunscroft, Stainforth pit top and Moorends pit top.

Officers said there had only been a few bikes out, and a couple of warnings issued.

A spokesman added: “The day was rounded off with us dropping on an Audi Q7 that we've been on the look out for.

"Unfortunately it made good it's escape at speed, destroying our pursuing Peugeot and Astra. We managed to box it into an area between us however, which prompted the thief to set light to the vehicle and make off. Upsetting news for the rightful owner.”
