Epworth is to benefit from a share of more than £310,000 from the government to build three new affordable town houses in Epworth. The new homes will be sold at 80 per cent of the market price to help first time buyers get on the property ladder.

It is part of a government scheme to help councils prepare vacant and underused land so that high quality homes can be built for first time buyers.

The old day centre on Burnham Road will be demolished to make way for the new homes. Work could start as early as spring 2016 and finish by July 2017.

Cllr Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“The funding is great news and means that we can now press ahead with our plans to create more affordable homes for people living in the Isle of Axholme.

“Rural development is a key priority – it will give first time buyers who perhaps don’t want a town centre location, to live on the outskirts of the town.”

Note to Editor: The money (£312,500) was secured from the Homes and Communities Agency.
