Driver evades police in high-speed chase across Doncaster moments after departure of King Charles

A driver who led police on a high speed car chase across Doncaster evaded capture just moments after the departure of King Charles.

Police officers gave chase to the vehicle along Barnsley Road, York Road, St George’s Bridge and Wheatley Hall Road within minutes of the end of the Royal visit on Wednesday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We received reports at around 2.15pm on Wednesday 9 November from a neighbouring force about a suspected stolen vehicle travelling into South Yorkshire.

“The vehicle was reported to be on cloned plates and failed to stop for officers in the Barnsley Road area of Scawsby.

“Officers pursued the vehicle and it was found abandoned in the Hardy Road area of Wheatley.”

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Numerous drivers reported seeing the vehicle swerving through traffic as the driver gave police the swap.

The drama came just minutes after the King and Queen Consort departed the Mansion House for their private helicopter at the Racecourse.
