VIDEO: Dramatic footage shows moment car smashes into high speed train in Doncaster

This is the dramatic moment a car reportedly smashed into a high-speed train in Doncaster – with the occupants of the car escaping unscathed.

Purported to be CCTV footage from the scene and leaked on social media, the clip shows a vehicle, understood to be a black Range Rover, ploughing into the side of an LNER Azuma express train at Rossington level crossing.

The clip, which the Free Press is attempting to verify and which has been widely circulated on social media, shows a vehicle crash through a fence at the side of the crossing before coming into contact with the train as it hurtles through the level crossing.

British Transport Police have confirmed that a car and train were in collision at the crossing shortly after 8pm last night.

The clip shows the train racing through the crossing – while from the left, a vehicle crashes into a fence before colliding with the train.

Both the car and train are then enveloped in a cloud of dust and debris.

The wrecked car can be seen lodged inches from the railway line while the express continues onwards.

Photos also circulating on social media show scrapes and paintwork damage to the side of the LNER train. A window can also be seen to be broken in one of the carriages.

British Transport Police said that officers were called to the crossing just after 8pm last night following reports a train had hit a car.

In a statement, BTP said: “Officers were called to Rossington Level Crossing in Doncaster at 8.07pm following reports that a train had hit a car.

“Thankfully, the vehicle was only clipped by the train and nobody is believed to have sustained any injuries.

“Officers and paramedics remain at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.”

London North Eastern Railway said yesterday: “Major disruption between Doncaster and Grantham until the end of the day.

“The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Doncaster and Retford.

“Whilst they attend the incident, all lines will be closed.

“A limited number of LNER trains will be able to divert via Gainsborough. These trains will not be able to call at Retford.

“Major disruption is expected to trains until the end of service.”
