Doncaster's The Draughtsman Alehouse named Britain's best railway station pub
The Draughtsman Alehouse at Doncaster Station has been named Britain's best railway station pub in a new ranking.
The independent pub topped the leader board of 46 station pubs across the country, scoring 84.1/100 on the travel website's Index.
Pubs were scored out of 100 across five weighted criteria: customer satisfaction (35 points, based on Google ratings adjusted for number of reviews), value for money (25 points, based on the price of the cheapest draught pint), opening hours (15 points, based on hours open per week), station convenience (15 points, based on whether the pub is inside the station and whether a ticket is needed) and aesthetic (10 points, based on each pub's look and feel).
The Draughtsman Alehouse's top spot was driven by the cheapest pint in the study at £1.65, alongside 4.7 stars from more than 600 Google reviews. Located on platform 3b of Doncaster Railway Station, it also earned one of the highest aesthetic scores in the ranking, at 9/10.

The Draughtsman Alehouse told us: “We’re absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been named Britain’s best railway station pub!
“After almost 10 years of trading it fills our hearts with joy to know that our little Alehouse is still very much cherished and offering the good people of Doncaster and beyond some quality produce!”
West Riding Refreshment Rooms at Dewsbury came second in Yorkshire and sixth nationally (75.7), with the Wetherspoons at Leeds station close behind in seventh (75.1). Harrogate Tap completed Yorkshire's top 10 haul in 10th place (72.9).
York Tap (13th), The Head of Steam at Huddersfield (16th) and Sheffield Tap (17th) also made the national top 20, and Yorkshire had more station pubs in the ranking than any region outside London.
Codsall Station in Staffordshire came second nationally with 78.0 points, with The North Western at Liverpool Lime Street third (76.8).
Spokesperson for Local Insider, Martin Danemaq, said: “A station pub can make or break a journey, whether you're killing time before a delayed train or meeting friends on the way home. Our ranking brings together the best of them, from grand city concourses to remote Highland platforms.

“The Draughtsman Alehouse in Doncaster came out on top thanks to an unbeatable pint price, glowing reviews and a charming setting right on the platform – and with Dewsbury, Leeds and Harrogate also in the top 10, Yorkshire is the place to be for a pre-train pint.
“With a winner in every region, there's a great station pub to discover wherever your next train takes you – just keep an eye on the departure board!"
