Doncaster-born writer Amy Archer has secured a publishing deal with HarperCollins

A Doncaster-born writer has secured a publishing deal with HarperCollins, with her first book due for release in June this year.

Amy Archer, aged 30, grew up in Balby and Auckley, attending McAuley Catholic High School and sixth form before studying theatre at university.

She always always wanted to be a writer, and worked in a variety of customer service and marketing roles across London, Sheffield, Doncaster and Leeds whilst writing in her spare time.

She told the Free Press: “I undertook a novel writing course with Faber Academy to help develop my writing, and following this, the novel I worked on during the course was longlisted for the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize in 2022.

“I was querying literary agents to try and secure representation for my work at this point, and through the prize I connected with my agent, signing with her in summer 2022.”

She continued: “I continued to work on projects with my agent’s support to try and secure a book deal, and started working on my fourth novel in April 2024.

“I wanted to write a fantasy romance with a comedic twist, and thus Nemesis Mine was born. It tells the story of a villain in his mid-thirties who is starting to grow concerned that his best days might be behind him.

“He decides to strike a deal with his enemy, the heroic Maximillian, to fake a feud and boost both their reputations… only to fall for each other instead.”

Amy received an offer for publication from a fantasy imprint of HarperCollins UK in October 2024. The following week she received a publication offer from HarperCollins US.

After working on the book extensively throughout 2025 with her editing team in London and New York, Nemesis Mine will be published in the UK on 18 June 2026, and in the USA on 23 June 2026.

The book is also being translated into Italian, and will be published by one of Italy’s leading publishers, Mondadori.

Amy is taking part in an event with Doncaster Waterstones on Thursday 25 June to discuss her writing practices and journey to getting published, including an interview with one of the booksellers, an audience q&a and a book signing.

Amy added: “Getting a book deal with HarperCollins is a dream come true, I wanted to be an author from a very young age and it's been so exciting to see everything unfold on Nemesis Mine from working on edits to seeing my covers for the first time. I'm really looking forward to introducing Cyrus and Max to readers in June.”
