Doncaster trade unions come together to stage fundraising gig for flood victims

Doncaster Rise up Against the Floods, organised by Doncaster and District Trades Union Council, will take place at the Diamond Live Lounge this Saturday and will feature a host of bands and performers.

The line-up includes Doncaster band Passion-Play, a duo covering indie hits called Lyers, Sheffield based group Reasons to be Cheerful who play punk and ska tracks as well as Brighton based punk/poet Attila the Stockbroker.

The DDTUC has already donating £600 to campaign funds after the recent floods which devastated Doncaster and also secured donations totalling in excess of £2,000 from individual trade unions

The show starts at 7pm and there will also be a raffle on the night with prizes donated by Doncaster councillors and local businesses.

Jon Moorcroft, President of Doncaster TUC said: “Following Boris Johnson’s meagre promise of £500 a family, we thought that there has to be a more positive response from the wider Trade Union movement.

“We find it unacceptable that in 2014, a similar situation in Somerset provoked a “money no object” stance from the then Prime Minister David Cameron.

“We cannot stand idly by and not respond to people’s need, even if the current Prime Minister seemingly sees the flooded residents needs in quite different monetary terms than that of the previous coalition government”.
