Police confirm double Doncaster shooting incidents connected

Police in Doncaster have confirmed that two recent shooting incidents in the city were connected.

Police in Doncaster have confirmed that two recent shooting incidents in the city were connected.

Officers were called to two incidents in Balby just hours apart last week.

In an update, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Our investigation into two firearms discharges in the Balby area of Doncaster remains active and a priority.

“As we work to identify and find those responsible, officers will be deployed in the area throughout today (21 April) conducting enquiries and we urge anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem to come forward and speak to us.”

Last Friday (17 April) and Sunday (19 April) officers responded to Surrey Street and Sheppard Road following reports of firearms discharges towards properties.

The spokesperson added: “While thankfully no one was seriously injured during the incidents, it is a stark reminder why we will not tolerate gun crime on our streets and how every time someone pulls a trigger innocent lives are put at risk.

“We are stronger with your help and know the answers to who lies behind these acts is amongst our communities and we’re urging you to work with us.

“The smallest piece of information can be the missing piece to helping us tackle gun crime.

“Officers will be on Surrey Street and Sheppard Road today conducting house to house enquiries and letter drops, please speak to them if you have any information or concerns.”

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cartwright explains more: “While we are keeping an open mind about these incidents and who and why could be responsible, we are now treating them as linked.

“My team of officers and detectives are exploring all lines of enquiry to find those responsible and I urge you to speak to us if you believe you can help.

“Gun crime has no place in our area, and while you may not believe you could be affected directly, anyone, any innocent member of the public, including children can get caught up in these aberrant acts, this is why we will not stop until dangerous offenders are put before the courts.

“Please support us in our efforts.”
