Man arrested on attempted murder charge after two shooting incidents in Doncaster

A man has been arrested on several charges including attempted murder following two separate shooting incidents in a Doncaster suburb in the space of a matter of days.

Yesterday (Tuesday 21 April) police arrested a 37-year-old on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, arson with intent to endanger life and attempted murder.

He remains in police custody, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into two incidents where buildings were damaged from firearms discharges.

Last Friday (17 April) and Sunday (19 April) officers responded to Surrey Street and Sheppard Road in Balby following reports of firearms discharges towards properties.

Thankfully no one was injured during the incidents.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cartwright said: "While this arrest is a significant development in our investigation, we are still appealing to our local communities for information.

“Whenever a trigger is pulled and a firearm is discharged, innocent lives are put in danger and it is crucial we continue to work together to root gun crime out of South Yorkshire.

“We know that even the smallest piece of information can sometimes be the key to solving these cases and it is vital that you get in touch."
