Doncaster Rovers: We owe Scunthorpe one says Andy Butler
Andy Butler says Rovers feel like they owe one to tonight's opponents Scunthorpe United, as well as getting back to winning ways.
Rovers turned in one of their most disappointing performances of the season as they were beaten at home on Boxing Day by their near neighbours.
And centre half Butler says there is a desire to put things right at Glanford Park tonight.
"We never turned up that day and we were very disappointed afterwards," he said.
"It wasn't a great game of football and they came away winners.
"I think we owe it to ourselves and the fans to get the right result."
A result is certainly what Rovers need as they look to put daylight between themselves and League One's bottom four.
Victory over their bitter rivals would give them a five point cushion over Blackpool, who currently occupy the final relegation berth.
Doncaster-born Butler believes there is enough in the Rovers squad to end their nine match winless run in League One.
He said: "We're a good bunch of players, we work hard and if you work hard you get your reward.
"We will continue to work hard and I'm sure our luck will change.
"Something will change and we will get a goal and go on from there.
"The players won't let their heads drop.
"We've got 12 games left and it's all to play for. As weird as it sounds we could get 30 points so there's a lot to play for.
"We're playing for our careers as well. We know that.
"We know where we're at right now and that we need a positive result."
Tonight's game sees Butler return to the club where he started his career.
And he is hoping to leave Glanford Park tonight having continued a trend.
He said: "I started my career so I've got a lot to thank Scunthorpe United for.
"I've been back there a few times and I've always got positive results so hopefully the trend continues."
Butler impressed on his return to the side in the defeat to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday having been named on the bench for the previous three games. He is likely to retain his place for tonight's game.
