Doncaster Rovers v Port Vale: Fergie out to fix home defects

Eddy Lecygne has joined Rovers on a months loan from Stoke City

Though they have suffered only three defeats in their last 15 matches, all of those losses came at the Keepmoat where they welcome Port Vale tonight followed by the visit of Walsall next Tuesday.

Ferguson felt Rovers dropped their standards in the goalless draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday and says the same cannot happen against Vale.

“It’s another hard game for us, as they all are,” he said.

“I want us to really focus on ourselves and get to a level we know we can.

“If we do that, we’re a hard team to play against.

“Port Vale are right ahead of us so if we win, we’ll go above them. It’s something I’ll probably mention before we go out.

“We’ve got to try to get as many wins as possible.

“The next two games are at home and we can’t have many more hiccups at home in the league.

“So we need to concentrate on Port Vale on Tuesday night and see if we can pick up the three points.”

Ferguson may opt to hand a debut to new signing Eddy Lecygne, who joined on a month’s loan from Stoke City yesterday.

The 19-year-old French midfielder is set to challenge Paul Keegan for the deep-lying midfield role.

Ferguson said: “I watched Eddie in a game last week. He understands the game.

“He’s got a good range of passing and he understands the position well which fits into what we want to do.

“With Harry Middleton being injured, I do need some cover in there.

“Also with Keegs, he was out for a long time and he’s played his fifth game on the bounce on Saturday so that’s something I could look at as well.”

Middleton (hamstring) will remain on the sidelines along with Andy Butler (groin), Nathan Tyson (hamstring) and Cameron Stewart (neck).

Mitchell Lund could come back into the side in place of Gary MacKenzie.
