Rowe suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Newcastle United U21s.

And manager McCann says Rovers will be without the 30-year-old for up to ten weeks.

'Tommy will be out for about ten weeks,' McCann said.

'It's a big blow, a massive blow for us to be without our skipper for that length of time.

'It's a different part of his hamstring. He's had one injection into it already and he's going to need three more of those before we can even think about bringing him back onto the grass.

'I have a lot of trust in my physio and he might get him back before that.'

McCann says the prognosis is the worst case scenario and Rovers may have the services of their captain before then.

But he pledged to take no risks with Rowe, who has suffered from hamstring issues in the past '“ most recently in April when he underwent surgery on his thigh.

'It's probably the worst case scenario so we may get him back before then,' McCann said,

'We've got to be careful with his hamstring.

'Tommy has had problems with his hamstrings throughout his career really.

'We're just unfortunate that it's a freak incident.

'We looked back on everything '“ how many 90 minutes he had played, did we do enough with him through the week, questioning each other as to where the blame lies.

'But there is no one to blame.

'We've done everything we could for Tommy.

'It was a freak incident. He leapt for a ball and he just felt it which is so unfortunate.'
