Darren Ferguson expects to have a fully fit squad for Saturday's South Yorkshire derby with Sheffield United.

Though disappointed to see last week’s trip to Scunthorpe United cancelled at the 11th hour due to a waterlogged pitch, Ferguson admits it was probably the best thing that could have happened for the health of his squad.

“It gave the players an extra week’s training and I think we’re going to be pretty much full strength for Saturday,” he told the Star yesterday, on his 44th birthday.

“Everyone is going to be fit. Tyson, Butler, Conor Grant, Cameron Stewart and Harry Middleton.

“I think actually, it wasn’t too much of a bad thing.”

Nathan Tyson and Conor Grant were both doubtful for the trip to Glanford Park but are fine to face the Blades.

While Andy Butler was passed fit to play Scunthorpe, Ferguson says he will be much healthier to return to action this weekend against another of his former clubs.

Ferguson said: “Each person individually is different but I think that Butts needs that full week training.

“He’s had that this week so that is beneficial. There was one or two with knocks. Aaron Taylor-Sinclair had a knock.

“We wanted the game, we’d prepared for it, we were ready for it. It was disappointing when it was called off but after the fact, it gets to five o’clock and you’re thinking probably it was not too bad a thing.”
