Doncaster Rovers '˜should know how to hurt Swindon'

Doncaster Rovers only have to look in the mirror to find the weaknesses of tonight's hosts Swindon Town according to Darren Ferguson.

Like Rovers, Swindon favour a 3-5-2 formation and Ferguson says his side should know just how to exploit the system.

“They’re a good footballing team,” he said. “They play three at the back or they have done in quite a few of the games.

“This will be the first time we’ve come up against a system similar to ourselves.

“They want to play between the thirds, overload areas of the pitch, very similar to ourselves.

“You’re talking wing backs versus wing backs. The space will be down the side of the centre halves. We know how to exploit that system because we play it ourselves. Or they should know.

“The players will hopefully take their game plan and produce tomorrow night.”

Ferguson was delighted with his players for sticking to the game plan in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Millwall, a result which ended a run of four consecutive defeats.

The much-improved performance was based largely on patient possession and composure and Ferguson says his players have reacted superbly to stopping the rot.

He said: “We had a good debrief and there were a lot of good clips to show them.

“There was a lot of stuff we’ve been working on which is good to show them that they did it in the game.

“It’s about gradually getting that belief into the players and I’m certain the Millwall game will bring a lot more of that.

“When you get that you play with a lot more freedom and we’re a far better team when we play with that freedom in our game.”

Paul Keegan is a doubt for the trip with a dead leg but Gary MacKenzie will be in the squad after returning from a loan spell at Notts County.
