Doncaster Rovers: Richard Chaplow's delight after strike against old club Millwall

Chaplow was subjected to boos and chanting from Millwall supporters throughout the game but delivered the ultimate retaliation when he powered home from close range eight minutes from the break.

“I very much enjoyed it,” he told The Star afterwards.

“They gave me a bit of stick but I don’t mind that.

“I’d be giving them a bit of stick myself if I had the chance.

“It’s all part and parcel of football and the modern game.

“I always enjoy getting on the scoresheet whoever it’s against. Obviously I managed to nick us a point so I’m delighted with that side of things.”

Chaplow joined Rovers last summer after leaving Millwall where he had endured a difficult time following a switch from Southampton.

He moved to Ipswich Town on loan for the final three months of the season, feeling he had never been given the opportunity to shine at the New Den.

His opportunities for starts have been scant at Rovers but he said he was delighted to play a part in the result which will hopefully signal an upturn in fortunes for Rovers.

“It was much more positive in terms of the performance,” he said.

“I thought we were back to our old ways before we went on our downturn in results so it nice to turn in that.

“It just gives us something to build on I think.

“We were disappointed not to win the game and I think on the balance of chances we might have just nicked it but it wasn’t to be.

“The performance now gives maybe that bit of confidence to take to Swindon on Tuesday and get the three points.”
