The striker signed a two-year deal with Rovers yesterday, fresh from a productive three month loan spell with League Two champions Northampton Town.

And after tasting promotion with the Cobblers, he insists that is the only thing on his mind is doing the same with Rovers.

“When you have had that feeling of winning promotion and getting your hands on that trophy, it’s something you’ll remember for the rest of your life,” he told The Star.

“I won the league last season with Northampton which was a great achievement and I was really happy to play a part in that.

“Hopefully, I’ll be getting another one next season.

“It is why I’ve come here. I can see the ambition this club has and it’s about getting out of this division quickly.

“The ambition matches mine in wanting promotion, always wanting to improve. That’s a big factor for me, the way a football club wants to be and the way I want to be.”

Marquis – Rovers’ seventh signing of the summer – arrived at the Keepmoat from boyhood club Millwall where he found first team opportunities limited after coming through the youth ranks.

The 24-year-old admits he is keen for regular football following a series of loan moves.

He said: “For me, it’s about playing as many games as I can and showing people what I’m about.

“I back my abilities and feel I can help the team with goals, assists and work rate.

“It’s a chance for me to have a fresh challenge, a new start and show everyone what I can do week in and week out.”a
