Darren Ferguson says the McKay twins needed a fresh start prior to their move from Doncaster Rovers to Leeds United.

Youth team graduates Paul and Jack McKay both moved to Elland Road for an undisclosed fee earlier this week.

"The Leeds thing came in and personally I think it will do them the world of good to have a fresh break," Ferguson said.

"They need a fresh start the pair of them.

"They weren't really knocking on the first team door for a start for different reasons so it's a good move for them.

"We wish them all the best.

"They're good lads, they have a great attitude the both of them.

"It's good they've gone together. They don't have to move home, it's only up the road.

"It's a good move for everyone."

Centre half Paul started the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Burton Albion earlier this season - his only senior appearance for the club.

Striker Jack was an unused substitute on three occasions this season. He made one senior start for Rovers - at Notts County late last season - and three substitute appearances.

Ferguson feels the move is right for the 19-year-old brothers as it will allow them to continue their development and work towards senior football.

He said: "They went to West Ham on a trial basis and did fine before the Leeds thing came up.

"These clubs like West Ham and Leeds that have bigger budgets and have U21 development groups that are slightly different to ourselves.

"It gives them the flexibility to bring the younger ones in for a while and their hope is they get into the first team.

"For us, it's more youth team to first team."

Earlier today, Cameron Stewart returned to Rovers on loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the season.
