Doncaster Rovers '˜lucky to get Tommy Rowe'

Tommy Rowe will add more aggression to Doncaster Rovers' midfield, according to boss Darren Ferguson.

The 26-year-old made his Rovers debut against his former club Peterborough United on Saturday, replacing Harry Middleton at half time.

Ferguson made the Wolves midfielder captain during their time together at Posh, which suggests he is just the sort of character Rovers need to help dig themselves out of trouble.

And Rovers’ boss is confident his newest recruit - brought in as a replacement for Conor Grant - will provide a bit more presence in the Doncaster engine room.

“He’s a big signing for us, he’s a good player,” said Ferguson.

“He’s come from a higher league and he knows this league well, he’s been promoted out of it.

“I’ve worked with him before and he can play in a variety of positions.

“Young Harry didn’t really do too much wrong, he just needs to find a bit more aggression in his game and Tommy gave us that in the second half.

“He was always on the front foot, physically stronger.

“He’s a good lad, a great pro,” he added.

“I think we’re lucky to get him, when we were looking for targets during the week.

“Fair play to Kenny Jackett because he’s been fair to the boy.

“I think he’s out of contract in the summer so I think he’s trying to help him out a bit there, because he has been in their squad a bit over the last couple of weeks.”

Rowe has joined Rovers on loan for the rest of the season. Ferguson told Radio Sheffield on Saturday that, depending on what league Rovers find themselves in next season, it could become longer term in the summer.

Rowe, who started out at Stockport County before joining Peterborough, made 14 appearances on loan at Scunthorpe United earlier this season.
