Doncaster Rovers: Grant McCann reveals pleasing dressing room reaction following victory over Bradford City

Rovers had to really dig in again to beat a spirited Bradford City side 2-1 courtesy of a brace from in-form striker John Marquis.

But McCann's men were not high-fiving each other following a third straight league win. Far from it.

They were disappointed at the nature of the Bantams' 81st minute goal from George Miller and the fact they allowed the visitors back into the game. 

'I think the pleasing thing for me is that I walked into the changing room afterwards and I saw the lads' heads down,' said McCann.

'It was a quiet changing room, picking the bones out of conceding a goal.

'That shows how far we've come.

'I think it shows the standards they set and it shows how far the group has come in a short space of time.'

He added: 'When I walked in [Andy] Butler was hammering a few people.

'The defenders were really disappointed to have conceded a goal.

'That's what any successful team has. They have leaders in the changing room who will say it before I say it.'

McCann described his side's performance in the hard earned victory as '˜iffy' - but that did not really bother him.

"We won the game so it's irrelevant how we performed really because it's all about the result," he said.

"In terms of our performance, I thought we were iffy.

"We had some really good spells in the game where we dominated. We had some spells where we had to dig in. 

'We ended up making it a bit tough for ourselves and had to put bodies on the line.

"I'm delighted with the result,' he added.

"Bradford can cause anyone problems in this league and they did for us.

"We're delighted that we defended it to a man."

Midfielder Ben Whiteman picked up his fifth yellow card in the league and will be banned for this weekend's trip to Plymouth Argyle.
