Ferguson's side showed tremendous defensive resolve to keep out Blackburn until the 80th minute when Charlie Mulgrew's header broke the deadlock.
And the visitors held on to secure the win which finalised their promotion to the Championship.

Hide AdThough disappointed with a second successive defeat, Ferguson was pleased with the efforts Rovers produced.
"My players couldn't have given us any more," Ferguson said.
"No one could have any complaints about the effort my players put into that game.
"They keep doing the same thing but unfortunately we've come unstuck to a team that has won promotion.

Hide Ad"We were playing a team that is technically very good, that can smother you and cause you problems in certain areas.
"There were periods in the game when we had to make sure their midfield players didn't control the game.
"We had to give possession up and sometimes you have to do that.
"I thought we got better as the game went on. It was a game for common sense but in the second half I thought we grew into it and got better.
"But we've switched off from a set piece. It's disappointing to lose a game to a set piece because at that stage I thought the game was very even."
