Doncaster Rovers: Colchester '˜dangerous opponents', warns Ferguson
Darren Ferguson has warned his players to take Colchester United lightly at their peril.
The U’s are bottom of League One and ten points adrift of safety.
Furthermore, they have won just one league game since October - a 2-1 victory at Bradford City earlier this month.
However, Ferguson says his own out-of-form side cannot afford to underestimate today’s opponents.
And he thinks Colchester’s perilous position in the table might have resulted in them playing with more freedom.
“They’ll certainly provide a challenge,” said Ferguson.
“They’ve obviously had a poor season but they’ve played very well in their last two games in particular.
“They drew 3-3 with Wigan after being 3-2 up with a minute to go, and they lost two late goals against Walsall after being the better team over 90 minutes.
“They could be a dangerous opponent in the sense that the feel that they’re doomed as such, and that there’s not as much pressure on them.
“So we’ve got to make sure we impose ourselves on them.”
Whatever the outcome today, Rovers face another huge game on Easter Monday at home to a Blackpool team currently one point better off.
“We’re only focusing on Colchester,” said Ferguson.
“I’ve got to think about Monday as soon as Friday finishes.
“We’ve just got to concentrate on trying to pick up the three points on Friday and breaking the cycle, and then we’d be going into Monday’s game with a lot more confidence.”
