Russ Spiers believes the Dons are good enough to make a stronger push for promotion after he returned to the club.

The prop is back at the Keepmoat after a one-year absence and is determined to help the Dons back into the Championship.

“We should be up there, definitely,” he said.

“We’ve made a few top signings, the biggest one being Paleaaesina from Hull.

“It’s a tough league, but we’re definitely good enough to fight for promotion.

“It’s a great club with good facilities, and such a close-knit team. I’m looking forward to it.”

Spiers left the Dons last year to join League 1 rivals York City Knights.

The 25-year-old has penned a one-year deal to become the fourth signing of pre-season along with Iafeta Paleaaesina, Charlie Martin and Jack Miller.

CEO Carl Hall is delighted to have Spiers back at the club.

He said: “It’s great to have Russ back.

“He is one we didn’t want to lose last season.

“Russ is a very tough durable player with a fantastic work ethic.

“He was a standout player for York last season and one they wanted to retain so we welcome Russ back to the Dons with open arms.”
