The Dons followed up their comprehensive victory over Coventry Bears by powering their way past Hull amateurs Myton Warriors and into the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

“We’ve made a good start and posted two big wins but we know we are going to come up against much stronger sides in both League One and the Challenge Cup,” said Horne.

“It’s nice to have scored over 150 points in our first two games but, no disrespect to either Coventry or Myton, I would have been disappointed had we not scored a lot of points when you take into consideration how hard the players have worked in pre-season and the quality we’ve got in the side.

“I was always confident that we’d run out easy winners against Myton even though they played for the full 80 minutes and showed up really well.

“They looked to build up pressure and scored a nice little try on our line.

“I thought we could have been better in the first half even though we were well ahead at half time.

“But when you don’t have a regular defensive structure in front of you it can become frustrating and you see gaps and start to take chances.

“I certainly thought that we were better in the second half. We played a lot more direct and we looked a lot better.”

Play-maker Jordan Howden celebrated his first game following hip surgery with a try and several assists.

“It was a good hit out for Jordan and he came through it well and he will only get better the more game time he has,” said Horne.
