Doncaster residents urged to get creative for Tour de Yorkshire

There are bright yellow and blue cycles mounted on posts and buildings, and even a yellow painted mobility scooter has been sighted in Sprotbrough.

And the more the merrier.

Doncaster Council are looking for community involvement across the borough to help decorate the towns and villages en route with street art to help welcome the global sporting event to Doncaster.

The Tour de Yorkshire is a three-day road cycling race attracting some of the world’s elite riders and an international audience of millions.

Bill Mordue, Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism said: “With such a fantastic platform to showcase our fantastic borough, this is the perfect time to unleash your enthusiasm and love for your home town and embrace the spirit of this exciting event.

“We are calling on all residents, local schools, community groups, businesses, parish and town councils to get creative and help put our home town on the map!”

Doncaster welcomes the finish of Stage Two of the Tour de Yorkshire in the town centre on Saturday, 30 April.

The inaugural women’s race will also wind its way through the borough before the sprint finish on Bennetthorpe.

Parties and events are lined up in villages along the route and at a dedicated Fan Zone on Town Field close to the finish line will offer something for the whole family to enjoy.
