Doncaster pub won't be re-opening as shops plan is announced

A popular Doncaster pub will not be re-opening its doors and could be turned into shops, a councillor has annoucned.

Cantley Lodge in Acacia Road, Cantley, known to many as Palfreys Lodge, has been shut for several months during the coronavirus lockdown.

But Bessacarr ward councillor Coun Neil Gethin (Labour) says the pub won’t be re-opening.

He wrote on Facebook: “I have recently been enquiring about Cantley Lodge and when or whether it will be reopening. Unfortunately not.

"I was informed that the property is to be converted in to either a shop or shops.

“I have enquired about Cantley Lodge and to date no application has been received to either change the use from a public house to a shop nor any planning application for works to be carried out. When this happens people will have the opportunity to make formal comment and it be considered prior to any decision being made.”
