Doncaster pub to host tribute after "part of the furniture" regular's death

The regular, known as “Ingo” was a familiar face in Doncaster

A Doncaster city centre pub will pay tribute to one of its regulars described as “part of the furniture” this weekend, following his death.

Jim English, who was known as Ingo, was a familiar face around Doncaster, with his employers Togel Contractors announcing the news of his passing earlier this week.

Now The Hallcross pub in Hallgate has said it will host an event to remember this weekend.

A pub spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of James English, a much-loved friend and regular at The Hallcross.

“To some he was part of the family, to all of us he was part of the furniture.

“He will be missed by staff and customers alike.

“Our thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew him.

“Friends are welcome to gather here from 12 noon on Saturday to remember him.

“Funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in due course.”

Mr English worked for Doncaster construction company Togel and the firm announced his passing in a social media post.

A spokesperson descrribed him as “ a valued, loyal and long-serving member of our Togel family” and added: “For over 30 years, Jim was an important part of our team as our decorating manager and a familiar face to so many.

“Jim’s dedication to Togel was nothing short of legendary.

“Over the years, he travelled the length and breadth of the UK, working on site, in the office and in our finishing workshop.

“His knowledge, skill and commitment to his trade as a painter and decorator were exceptional, and he took enormous pride in everything he did.

“With a big heart and a big personality, Jim was quite simply one of a kind.

“He was a colleague, a friend and a hugely valued member of the Togel family. He will be very much missed by us all.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”
