Doncaster MPs will continue with surgeries after fatal constituency attack on Labour's Jo Cox

Doncaster MPs Ed Miliband and Caroline Flint say they are determined to continue with their surgeries as normal, after West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox was fatally shot and stabbed in her constituency.

Mrs Cox was due to attend a surgery in her constituency of Batley and Spen, when the horrific attack took place on Thursday afternoon.

Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband said he would continue to hold regular constituency surgeries.

He added: “It’s important that people have access to their elected representatives.

“The ability for constituents to meet their MPs, face to face, and discuss any problems or issues they have is a vital part of our system which must be preserved.”

Don Valley MP, Caroline Flint said MPs were reviewing their ‘security’ in the wake of the fatal attack.

“All MPs are undertaking a review of security, both for themselves and their staff. I have no plans to change my surgeries. They are an important part of what I do, and it would be a sad day if, for security reasons, I was unable to meet constituents to help with their problems. There is so much more to an MP’s work, than just debates and questions in Parliament. The constituency work is very important. That was the service Jo Cox was performing when she was brutally taken away from us. Jo was an MP doing her duty for a place she loved. Jo Cox was a good MP and a loving mum. She threw her heart and soul into being the best MP she could be for the area she was from.
