Doncaster MP highlights city's manufacturing and engineering apprenticeships

The Doncaster Central Labour MP praised the city’s industrial heritage

A Doncaster MP has praised the city’s manufacturing and engineering apprenticeship opportunities.

Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameson spoke after visits to Inspiro Learning in Armthorpe and Hitachi Rail's Doncaster facility.

The visits showcased the vital role local employers and training providers play in equipping people with the skills needed for successful careers in manufacturing, engineering and the automotive sector.

At Inspiro Learning, Ms Jameson saw how the organisation is delivering 180 high-quality automotive apprenticeships in Doncaster.

Inspiro specialises in paint and body repair training and supports young people into skilled employment through industry-leading programmes.

The state-of-the-art facilities include four vehicle ramps, a paint booth and specialist paint-mixing equipment.

Ms Jameson also visited Hitachi Rail's Doncaster depot, where more than 270 people are employed maintaining over 70 trains that operate across the UK rail network.

The site works closely with local schools and colleges to provide apprenticeship opportunities and inspire the next generation of engineers.

She said: "It was fantastic to visit both Inspiro Learning and Hitachi Rail and see the incredible work they are doing to create apprenticeship opportunities for local people.

“Apprenticeships provide a valuable route into skilled, well-paid careers, while helping businesses develop the workforce they need for the future.

"Doncaster has a proud industrial heritage and a bright future in manufacturing, engineering and advanced skills.

“These skills will be needed in Doncaster as we look ahead to the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport and growth in skilled aviation industry jobs.”
