Full-back Paul Jarvis is back to his best, which is good news for Doncaster Knights ahead of Wednesday's Championship play-off final first leg against Bristol at Castle Park.

For the first time since returning to action after a nine-week lay-off after surgery on his injured foot, the Knights’ star was firing on all cylinders in the club’s semi-final second leg tie against Yorkshire Carnegie making several trademark attacking runs.

“It was nice to play well but it has taken a bit of time to get back into it because I’d not been able to do any running while I was injured,” he said.

“I was a bit worried when I first came back because when you’ve been out a long time often something else goes wrong but I’m feeling a lot better now with a few games under my belt.

“Although we lost the second leg (17-14) I think 100 per cent that we deserved to go through on aggregate.”

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s tie, Jarvis said: “Obviously we’ll be looking to try and win it and take a lead into the game at Ashton Gate, but there is no point in trying to change the way we’ve been playing.

“They’ve got more experience of finals than we have but given what has happened to them in those finals it’s not a good experience. They’ve definitely got more demons than we have.

“We know we’ll be going into the final as massive underdogs but all the pressure and expectation is on them.

“Although we want to win the final no matter what happens in the two games it’s been a great season for us.”
