Doncaster Knights: Injured Stedman could face battle to reclaim jersey

Strong-running No 8 Ollie Stedman may have scored five tries in his last two games but he's not certain to regain his place in Doncaster Knights' starting line-up when fit.

“We’ll continue to monitor Ollie’s injury with regards to the game at Cornish Pirates on Sunday week but he could be out until the London Scottish game the following week,” said boss Clive Griffiths.

“In any case he has to get back into the team and there is a lot of competition for places in the back-row.

“Alex Shaw is a good player who can play anywhere in the back-three of the pack and he had a good game playing at No 8 against Yorkshire Carnegie on Saturday.”

Stedman missed the thrilling 34-28 derby win over Carnegie after suffering a hamstring injury in training just 48 hours before the eagerly-awaited game.

“My hamstring was tight after playing on the 3G pitch at Ealing,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s too bad so hopefully I’ll be back within a couple of weeks and be fit to play against Pirates but there is a lot of competition for places and we all want to start.

“It was disappointing to miss out on Saturday but the team played well and we got the result we wanted.”

Second-placed Knights require 14 points from their last six games to mathematically book their place in the promotion play-offs.
