Doncaster flood warnings stood down as Storm Babet threat passes

Seven remaining flood warnings in place for Doncaster have been stood down as the threat of Storm Babet passes.

The warnings were in place along a lengthy stretches of the River Don following torrential rain on Friday and Saturday which swelled the river and saw it overtopping in several locations.

However, the majority of water swept onto flood plains and farmland, with the majority of homes and businesses escaping relatively unscathed.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Flood warning have been removed as river levels on the River Don have fallen significantly following Storm Babet.

"No further significant rain is expected and river levels will continue to drop over the next few days.”

However, a flood alert is still in place along the River Don between Hexthorpe and Stainforth, however the threat is minimial.

An EA spokesman said: “We continue to monitor the situation. Take care on waterside roads and footpaths and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.”
