Doncaster care home hits back over 'unsubstantiated' safety concerns

Bosses say all concerns about well-being are taken seriously

Bosses at a Doncaster care home have hit back over concerns about residents’ safety, saying claims ‘were not substantiated.’

An anonymous message sent to the Free Press said ‘serious concerns’ had been raised about the standard of care, staff morale and overall atmosphere at Cantley’s Liberty House ‘following a recent change in management.’

Bosses at the Goodison Boulevard care home, which is run by Runwood Homes have now hit back against the allegations.

A spokesperson said: “We take all concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of our residents seriously.

“The concerns raised were investigated and reported to the relevant authorities, including the CQC and Local Authority.

“Following further reviews, the concerns were not substantiated.

“We remain committed to providing safe, high-quality care, maintaining an open and transparent culture, and ensuring residents, relatives and staff feel able to raise any concerns.”

The complainant told the Free Press: “Since the change, there appears to have been a noticeable decline in morale among both staff and residents.

“Families and staff members are increasingly concerned about whether residents are receiving the care, dignity, attention and compassion they deserve.

“Among the concerns reported are residents not receiving sufficient drinks, wounds that appear not to be receiving appropriate attention, and the use of bed rails in circumstances where their necessity has been questioned.

“These matters raise important questions about residents’ safety, comfort and individual care needs.

“Of particular concern is that both family members and staff feel their concerns are not being listened to or acted upon by management. Staff members who raise issues about residents’ welfare should be supported and taken seriously, not left feeling ignored.

“A care home should be a place where residents feel safe, valued and cared for, and where staff feel respected, supported and confident to raise concerns without fear of being dismissed.

“Good care depends on effective leadership, teamwork, communication and a genuine commitment to putting residents first.

When both staff and families are raising concerns and feel they are being ignored, it is vital that those concerns are investigated properly rather than allowed to continue without resolution.”
