"Delighted" Doncaster MP completes set of city Government appointments
All four of the city’s MPs are now in Andy Burnham’s new Government
A “delighted” Doncaster MP has become the fourth and final city MP appointed to new Prime Minister Andy Burnham's Government.
Doncaster East and Isle of Axholme MP Lee Pitcher MP has been appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Saying he was “delighted” at the news, Mr Pitcher said: “Before becoming an MP, I spent over 25 years working in the water and climate industry.
“Over those years much of my career focused on flood and drought resilience, and I am incredibly honoured to now bring my experience in these areas to government.
“This role will also give me the opportunity to push for real change on areas like water safety, which has been a major campaign priority for me since entering Parliament.
“My number one priority will always be the people of Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, and I am determined to use this role to make a positive difference for our constituency and our country.
It completes the Doncaster line-up in the new Government.
Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameson has been appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Housing, Communties and Local Government while Rawmarsh and Conisbrough MP John Healey has been appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer, with Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband appointed Foreign Secretary.
Former Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton, now Baroness Winterton, has also been rewarded with a role and has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
