Two men seriously injured after machete gang attack at Doncaster boxing gym

Two men are seriously ill in hospital in Doncaster today after being attacked by a gang wielding machetes at a Doncaster boxing gym.

A major incident was declared in Skellow last night after the gang, reported to be wearing balaclavas, stormed into the boxing club off Ings Lane and attacked two men with machetes.

Police have said the attack was a targeted one and have stepped up patrols in the area as a result.

The incident is the latest in a wave of gang related violence which has swept Doncaster in recent weeks, although police have not yet confirmed last night’s bloodshed is connected to a string of shootings and other incidents of violence since March.

Ten separate shootings are currently being investigated by police.

Officers were called to the gym – understood to be TG Boxing – at the side of Skellow Grange Club shortly before 7pm last night.

Roads near to the club were sealed off with a large number of police and ambulances at the scene.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We were called yesterday at 6.53pm to reports of violence.

“It is reported that a group of men entered the Skellow Grange Boxing Club and attacked two men with machetes.

“Emergency services attended and the two victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“In response to the incident, which is thought to be a targeted attack, officers will be conducting additional patrols in the area as the investigation continues.”

We have contacted TG Boxing for a statement. The club is separate from the nearby Skellow Grange WMC.

Police were called just after 12.30am on June 12 after a report that a man and woman had been in an altercation with a group outside the Skellow Grange club.

The man was taken to hospital but he has since been discharged. The woman received minor injuries.
