Early morning horror as three masked men armed with machetes held up cash machine couriers and stole £9,000

An investigation is underway following a cash-in-transit robbery in Doncaster on Friday (May 28).A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At around 8am on Friday morning, three cash couriers were filling up the machines at Co-op Fuel on South Parade in Thorne. Three men, all wearing balaclavas, are reported to have arrived in a black Seat Leon and threatened the couriers with machetes before stealing the cash. Nobody was injured, but it’s believed around £9,000 was taken.

“Early enquiries indicate that the Seat was being driven on false plates. We are now working with other forces to identify and trace those involved."

The spokesman added: “If you have any information, please call 101 and quote incident number 163 on 28 May. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and pass on information while remaining completely anonymous.”
