Sheffield Crown Court heard on February 15 how Kiel Tetley, aged 34, formerly of Mill House Caravan Site, on Moss Road, Askern, Doncaster, had allegedly been heard by a witness saying he was going to chop off the complainant’s head before he attacked him on September 19, 2020.
Graham O’Sullivan, prosecuting, said police had received reports a man had attacked another man at the residential caravan site and the victim’s medical notes confirmed the victim had suffered a 2cm laceration to his scalp, a 12cm laceration to the back of his neck, and an 11cm laceration to his back and bruising to a temple and a fractured rib.

The complainant had been talking with the defendant and when he returned to the caravan site he was assaulted by the defendant with a machete after an unknown dispute.
One witness saw the defendant armed with the machete and claimed Tetley had said: “I’m going to hack your head off, I’m going to hack your head off.”
Mr Graham added that a witness saw the complainant outside the defendant’s caravan as Tetley ran up to him and grabbed him before swinging the machete and striking blows to the complainant’s back, neck and head.

He added that his scars will be with him for the rest of his life and he is struggling with anxiety and paranoia and receiving support for drug-abuse after resorting to drugs as a coping mechanism.
Edward Moss, defending, said the aggravation seems to have started when the complainant arrived at the scene.
He added Tetley has a mental health issue where he needs constant monitorng and assistance.

Tetley, who has previous convictions pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and he also admitted threatening to cause damage after an earlier incident on the same day with an employee at the caravan site.
Mr O’Sullivan said an employee at the caravan site had confronted Tetley about complaints of noise and trouble and a noisy party and the defendant had shouted and sworn at her and threatened to burn the carvan site to the ground.
Recorder Kirtley acknowledged that despite a witness account there had been no intent to remove the complainant’s head which is why the incident was not being dealt with as an attempted murder.
