Below are some of the more serious and dreadful cases to have passed through Sheffield Crown Court in September where victims have been left injured, traumatised or out of pocket.
Different offenders have been involved in shootings, robberies, a high-speed police chase and drug-dealing.
Among those sentenced, a peadophile has been jailed after he incited a child to engage in a sexual activity and videoed the horrific offence, while another pervert has been locked-up after he was trapped by an online police decoy pretending to be a 12-year-old girl.
In another case, an axe-wielding robber terrified a cashier during a raid at a petrol station.
Judges have punished eight of these offenders appropriately with custodial sentences of varying lengths. Two of the convicted defendants have been remanded in custody awaiting sentencing in October with one told he faces a possible life sentence and another told all sentencing options will be considered.

9. Brandon Bailey
Sheffield Crown Court heard on September 21 how Brandon Bailey, pictured, aged 26, of Manor Park Way, Sheffield, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life. Bailey was linked to Stephen Dunford, aged 25, of Fellbrigg Road, Sheffield, who was found guilty of attempted murder after the drive-by shooting of a boy in Arbourthorne on January 12, but it was not claimed Bailey was in the car during the shooting. Bailey was convicted after police found a gun with DNA traces from Bailey and recovered £19,970 from his home, according to prosecuting barrister Stephen Wood QC, and he has pleaded guilty to possessing criminal property. Bailey will be sentenced with Dunford on October 2. Judge Jeremy Richardson told Bailey, who is remanded in custody, all sentencing options will be considered. Photo: South Yorkshire Police

Sheffield Crown Court heard on September 22 how Jack Tomkins, pictured, aged 23, of Crumpsall Road, Norwood, Sheffield, admitted inciting a child into a sexual activity by allowing the youngster to touch him in June and he also admitted four counts of possessing indecent images after his digital devices were analysed. Judge David Dixon, who described Tomkins’s behaviour as “horrific”, sentenced him to eight years of custody and placed him under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 20 years.
