Sheffield Crown Court heard on November 27 how Robert Porter, aged 51, of Church View, Wadworth, Doncaster, made contact with the youngster via Snapchat and Instagram before suggesting she send pictures for money, that they could meet and he wanted to have sex.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, The Recorder of Sheffield, told Porter: “Your criminal behaviour is reprehensible. You preyed upon a young girl like this, and in the way you did was deplorable."

Ian Goldsack, prosecuting, said the youngster’s parents had become concerned about her behaviour and noticed a message on her phone stating, “I want you baby”, and her bank account showed payments of £131 from “R. Porter”.

Police tracked Porter in March and the complainant, who had just turned 15-years-old and cannot be named for legal reasons, revealed the defendant had asked about doing things and said he would pay for pictures.

Mr Goldsack said she revealed Porter had asked if they could meet and that he wanted to have sex and he sent indecent images of himself.

Police found 211 indecent images, with duplicates, on Porter’s electronic devices, according to Mr Goldsack, including 96 of the complainant with some naked images. The images were category C which is the least serious.

Mechanic Porter, who has previous convictions including the online grooming of a 14-year-old girl culminating in sexual activity, pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child aged under 16 and to possessing indecent images.

James Gould, defending, said Porter’s offences had not involved sophisticated planning and he is a man who cares for his mother and he has spent seven weeks remanded in custody before being released under a curfew.

Judge Richardson told Porter: “You are to my mind a predator. Second, there are a number of very worrying features of this case which are evident with reference to your history and the features surrounding this case. Third, the punishment of you is at the forefront of my analysis.”

Judge Richardson sentenced Porter to 18 months of custody and placed him under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.
