Officers are investigating an incident last week in which a man 27, was arrested for the rape of a woman, 24 in Lakeside.

There have been social media posts that another incident took place in Warren Park, Bessacarr, earlier the same night.

But South Yorkshire Police have moved to clarify the situation and to reassure the public.

Lakeside was sealed off last week after a reported rape.

A spokesman said: “Following the report to police on 21 October, initial enquiries revealed the location where the alleged offence had taken place was Warren Park.

"A 27-year-old man remains under investigation for rape and sexual assault.

"We continue to reassure the public that no one else is being sought in connection with this inquiry.”

Last Wednesday, an area of Lakeside Boulevard was sealed off after a woman was reportedly raped close to the lake at around 10.45pm.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident number 966 of October 21.
