Police clampdown on Doncaster drivers using Lakeside as race track

Police in Doncaster have clamped down on drivers using the Lakeside area as a ‘race track.’

There have been numerous reports of cars racing and driving dangerously in the area over the last few weeks, with locals comparing the noise and speeds to a Grand Prix.

Now police have revealed they have targeted a number of drivers following complaints.

Sgt Steve Roberts of Doncaster Central Police said: “We are aware of numerous reports of antisocial vehicle use around Lakeside.

"We have issued various warnings under S.59 of the Police Reform Act to drivers of these vehicles over the last few days.

"If those vehicles are seen being used in a similar manner in the next 12 months, they can be seized.”

The act allows police and PCSOs to deal with people using cars in an anti-social manner, either on or off road.

Last month, there were numerous complaints about cars driving dangerously on Lakeside Boulevard.

A spokesman said: “We received a report just before 9pm on Saturday, 11 July, that cars were racing dangerously up Lakeside Boulevard in Doncaster causing a lot of noise.

One Twitter user contaced police to say: “What the heck is going off near White Rose Way at Lakeside in Doncaster - cars been screeching up and down for last few hours. Is there any police presence there?”

Another said: “From here in Bessacarr it literally sounded like Lakeside was hosting a Grand Prix on Saturday night. It was horrendous between 11pm and 12.30am.”
