Police break up huge South Yorkshire ‘car cruising’ meet

Two cars have been seized after South Yorkshire Police broke up a car cruising and drag racing meet attended by hundreds of spectators.

The cars were seized in Doncaster following reports of racing between B&Q and Tesco at the Woodfield Plantation.

When officers arrived hundreds of spectators were found to be lining the roads to watch.

After they were successfully dispersed, the meet moved to the Kirk Sandall Industrial Estate where they were again dispersed.

Officers seized two cars and issued eight warning notices to cars which will be seized if caught again.

They also issued 19 traffic reports, one for driving without insurance, two for driving without due care and attention, nine for window tints and seven for incorrect registration plates.

Sergeant Matthew Duffy said: “This was a significant and pre-planned event which caused severe disruption to residents.

“Hopefully our swift action last night sends out a clear message that this will not be tolerated.”
