Police action after 100 youths gather in Doncaster car park, leaving glass and laughing gas as they flee

Around 100 youths gathered in Cusworth Hall car park this weekend in the first serious breach of lockdown in Doncaster West, writes Insp Adrian Luscombe

They fled as our officers arrived at 8pm on Saturday, leaving behind broken glass and empty canisters of nitrous oxide.

We will look at CCTV to try to identify people. If we find the organiser, they could be fined £10,000. Anyone there could be fined £200.

We would appeal to the public to take some responsibility, and urge parents to know where their children are.

It is the most significant such incident seen in Doncaster West, where people have mostly respected lockdown.

Mexborough has seen a strong police presence since the death of Lewis Williams last month.

The result has been a large number of arrests and warnings for possession of drugs in the town.

We cautioned a man on Simpson Place for possession of class A drugs on January 28; arrested two for possession of drugs after stopping a car on Harlington Road on January 30; cautioned a man on Elm Road for cannabis possession on January 31; and warned people over cannabis possession on Sarah Street on February 7, Schofield Street on February 11, and Herbert Street on February 16.

Two men were arrested on Lower Dolcliffe Road for possession with intent to supply cannabis on February 17.

And raids uncovered cannabis cultivation set ups, with 80 plants found on Hampden Road on February 5, 17 plants on Windhill Crescent on February 17, and 54 plants on Victoria Street on February 17.

In Conisbrough, cannabis warnings were given after stop and searches on New Hill on January 27, and Welfare Avenue on January 28; and a vehicle was stopped and two arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs on Low Road on February 4.

In Edlington stop and searches led to a warning over cannabis on Mill Lane on January 26; an arrest for intent to supply class A drugs and assaulting a constable on Violet Avenue on February 7; and an arrest and charges for possession of amphetamine on Stubbins Hill on February 19.

Two warrants were carried out on South Street, Highfields on February 10. One man was warned over cannabis. Two were arrested for possessing class A and B drugs.
