We are currently targeting Conisbrough with a series of operations to deal with a surge in reports of nuisance bikers and quad riders, writes acting insp Richard Mangham.

We have already carried out two operations in the last few weeks in the village, seizing vehicles as a direct result, and we are lining up more, perhaps one every month as long as the need is there.

Neighbourhood officers, the off-road bikes team and even the mounted division have been involved.

We have seen a vast increase in reports in the last six weeks.

The most recent operation, last week, saw four vehicles seized, and three of those are suspected to have been stolen. That is under investigation.

Conisbrough has also recently seen us looking into reports of speeding at Old Road, where advisory work has been done.

And a youth has been referred to diversionary activities through the youth offending team after being found in possession of cannabis after a stop and search in the village, on Elm Green Lane.

Our main issue in Mexborough this week has been an arson attack on a car outside a house on Comely Bank Drive, on the Shimmer estate, on the night of Monday July 27.

The fire also caused damage to the front of the house, but no one was injured. There has been no arrest as I write, but the investigation is ongoing.

Edlington has seen an increase in criminal damage recently on the Royal estate.

We have seen damage to both cars and property over the last week, and as a result we are running high visibility patrols in that area. We’re also appealing for information on who is causing the damage. Please call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

And July 17 saw a raid on a house on Roberts Road, Edlington, resulting in a man being charged with possession of cannabis.

Another drugs raid, at Alexander Street, Bentley, uncovered nearly 200 cannabis plants being cultivated at the address.

Finally, we have added the park at Barnsley Road, Scawsby to our patrol route, due to a rise in reports of antisocial behaviour in that area.
