Mum who tried to smuggle drugs into Doncaster prison "saved by her children"

Chantelle Stubbs was captured on CCTV hugging her ex-partner in the visitor's hall of HMP Lindholme, near Hatfield Woodhouse, Doncaster, on June 19, 2019, said prosecutor Ayesha Smart.

Prison officers spotted the inmate taking something from her and stuffing it down his trousers, she said.

When the pair were challenged, the phone, two pregablin tablets and 47 oxymetholone tablets were discovered, wrapped in clingfilm.

Stubbs, 28, of Willow Avenue, Retford, admitted two counts of possessing class C drugs with intent to supply and one count of conveying a prohibited article into a prison, on December 15, after initially denying the offences.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC said her children were the only thing saving her from going to prison.

Katy Rafter, mitigating, said: "There's nothing that I can usefully add further."

The judge told Stubbs: "You have been a very foolish woman. Outrageous in some respects.

"The good order and discipline of a prison demands that those who visit prisons don't take these items in because all manner of problems arise.

"You had, at least, the good sense to plead guilty. I have no doubt you were under a certain amount of pressure at the time.

"Try and be a little better in your choice of partners in the future. Think of your children."

The judge imposed an eight month sentence, suspended for 18 months, with 20 rehabilitation days.
