A 'loving husband, father and grandad': Family's tribute as police name cyclist who died following South Yorkshire crash

The family of a dedicated cyclist who sadly died in a suspected collision in Darfield last week have paid tribute to their loving husband, father and grandad.

On Tuesday August 11, around 10am, roads policing officers attended reports of a collision involving a cyclist on Doncaster Road (A635) in Barnsley, after a man was found unconscious in the middle of the road with serious injuries.

The man has now been named as Michael Jordan, known to family and friends as Mick from Swinton, Rotherham.

71 year-old Mick was taken to Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, where he sadly passed away last Friday (14 August).

Mick’s wife Janice has paid tribute to her husband of 53 years, she said: “I've known Mick for 56 years when we met as teenagers.

“We have been married for 53 years, he has been a wonderful father and husband, always putting his family first.

“We have a son and a daughter, two amazing grandsons, a lovely son in law and daughter in law, who Mick has always been very proud of. We have all learned valuable life lessons from Mick, that he always followed himself. Mick was honest and kind and a true friend to many.

“Mick has been a very dedicated cyclist for over 40 years, averaging at around 8000 miles a year. He was always very careful and considerate to other road users.

“The whole family and everyone who knows Mick are devastated and will miss him dearly.”

Enquiries are continuing into how Mick came about his injuries.

Officers investigating are keen to speak to the driver of a white-coloured Ford Focus, a dark-coloured Hyundai i40 estate and a small dark-coloured Hyundai, possibly an i10, who were travelling on Doncaster Road (A635) near to the junction with Barnsley Road and Strawbridges' Garden Centre around 10:15am on Tuesday 11 August.
