Knife-wielding thief who stole from dad in Doncaster spared jail

A thief who threatened to harm himself with a knife while he was stealing £300 from his father has been spared from jail.

Sheffield Crown Court heard today, Monday, February 10, how Andrew Lunn, aged 37, of Cannon Street, Castleford, targeted his father during an incident in Doncaster in July, 2018.

Judge Sarah Wright told Lunn: “You stole £300 from your father and picked up a knife and threatened to harm yourself and waved it around causing serious concern.”

Lunn, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the theft.

Judge Wright said: “Your father was terrified. It is seriously aggravated by your previous convictions and you were probably under the influence of drugs at the time.”

She added the defendant has mental health and drug issues.

Lunn was sentenced to 20 months of custody suspended for 18 months with rehabilitation and drug rehabilitation requirements.

He was also given a five-year restraining order.
