Attackers struck at both Goodies and SJT Lolliepops and Gumdrops – both of which are in Mexborough – in the space of a few days.

Both shops sell sweets and desserts – and both suffered similar damage after security shutters were smashed, causing interior damage to both properties.

It is understood both businesses may have been ram raided.

Goodies in Main Street was attacked in the early hours of Friday morning, with the attack on Lolliepops and Gumdrops coming approximately 24 hours later.

Describing the incident on Facebook, Goodies owner Chris Munro said: "So some jealous b****** has done this to my shop.

"If anyone hears anything, give me a shout. I’m checking all CCTV on the road. The evidence suggest that this was a targeted attack.

He added: “I was planning on getting a new shop front for a while now so they have done me a favour knocking it down.

“This was a targeted attack on the business and all leads are being investigated. We will find the person behind this cowardly attack.”

Hours later, in the early hours of Saturday morning, Lolliepops and Gumdrops in Adwick Road, Mexborough suffered a similar fate.

A post on the shop’s Facebook page: “After building my shop for over 5/6 years, getting woke up in the early hours of this morning to this has really thrown me off what I love doing.

"I love my business and building it into a thriving sweet shop.

"I now have to focus on a rebuild for the front of my shop. This won’t stop me for long doing what I love to do.

“What can I say - people who target small businesses like my self and try and cause very bad damage should be ashamed.

"A family with really small children live upstairs and could have been very badly hurt. There’s CCTV all around the shop and as soon as I can I’ll be looking into that.

"So here’s to a bigger and better business going to thrive and make things better with a new shop front.”
