A have-a-go hero wrestled a suspected robber to the ground as he tried to flee police through Doncaster today

The incident happened after officers had received a report that that the suspected thief had threatened a victim before taking £20 from them yesterday.

Sgt Steve Roberts, of Doncaster Central neighbourhood policing team, said: “The suspect was seen by officers on Thorne Road this afternoon and he promptly ran across Townfields.

“Luckily for the officer chasing him, and unluckily for the baddy, a member of the public saw this happening and tackled him to the ground.

“Unfortunately our hero helper left the area before we could get his details to thank him properly.”

The man was arrested for suspected robbery and found to be in possession of two bags of what officers believe to be the drug spice.

The suspect was due to be interviewed by officers today.
