South Yorkshire Police said the golfer intervened when he saw a man trying to run off after being pulled over in a car near Doncaster Golf Club, Bawtry Road.

The golfer managed to grab hold of the motorist, who was then arrested by chasing officers.

South Yorkshire Police said: “We have arrested a man for immigration offences with help from a golfer.

“Officers pulled over a car on Bawtry Road, and the driver got out and tried to run away.

“Seeing what was happening, the man intervened and managed to grab hold of him.

“Tee-rific work all round.”

The suspect is set to be interviewed by immigration officials.
